Saturday 28th Aug the senior squad had their second pre season fixture following a 34-12 win over Sutton & Epsom squad the previous week.
The opposition this week was Weybridge Vandals who will be strong contenders in London SW 3 this coming season and gave the lads a good competitive run out. Both teams looked a bit rusty after 18 months with no Rugby. Vandals had a heavy pack, who were very committed at the breakdown area.
Making it hard to win clean quick ball. The game was close with neither team moving more than a score away from each other. In fact going into the last quarter the game was finely balanced
at 17-19 to Vandals. With Michael Sejean a new Prop who was in fact playing in the back row at this point scoring in the final quarter to seal the victory 24-19 with George Perry adding the extras.
There were many pluses for the Coaches to take away with a number of new players like Michael, Joe Jones, Jacob Coole – Healy, Tom Rainey and Adam Tarpey all making excellent debuts and hopefully enjoying their first run out in Blue & Green. Also great to see the return of some lads that have been away at Uni with Paul Marshall & Alex Skinner relishing their return to Park Lane and showing that they will be making a huge contribution to the league campaign this season. It was easy to see the input of the new members of coaching staff Cadan Murley & George Head who have been working hard with the lads on patterns of play and when we played to this structure we looked dangerous and made many line breaks. Lots to work on which will continue at Beckenham this Saturday and then Old Colfeians to conclude our preparations on the 11th.
